Seamus Heaney HomePlace wins major heritage award

Seamus Heaney HomePlace in Bellaghy was named best visitor centre by the Association for Heritage Interpretation.  The AHI Awards recognise excellence in cultural and natural heritage interpretation across Britain and Ireland.

The new exhibition area is a fully immersive experience detailing the life of Seamus Heaney through the years.  The new space consists of audio visual touch screens, interactives, graphics and key artefacts belonging to the famous poet which are on display within stunning showcases.

Marcon completed the fit-out of the exhibition space  which was designed by Tandem.

Our heritage team utilised the specialist skills and expertise of our joinery workshop to create bespoke elements for the new visitor centre for Mid Ulster District Council.

Dr. Bill Bevan, Chair of the AHI commented that the judges were “impressed by themed spaces, activity room & connecting man, place & poetry.”

Congratulations to everyone involved in this wonderful project – a worthy winner of this prestigious award!
